As you say, we work to promote literature in translation; in particular, we support writers who address issues of intercultural understanding and freedom of expression that lie at at the heart of the PEN charter. We are very proud to support Eli and Amir, two enormously Sophie Houlthttp://www.englishpen.org/writersintranslation/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6564558595221085675.post-19658368243695314082010-07-05T06:49:10.883+01:002010-07-05T06:49:10.883+01:00Lela : Yes, it was a wonderful evening.

Both were told not to speak Judeo-Arabic in the streets and had full protection from the government. One day I believe Iraq will welcome Jewish visitors again but currently it is not a safe destination for Jews. I am eternally grateful to English PEN for Writers in Translation and hearing Eli Amir and Atiq Rahimi at Waterstones was one of the most moving and inspirational experiences I have had. My only regret was that I bought only two copies of each book - I want to give them to everyone I know!

LelaLela Kogbarahttp://www.islington.gov.uknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6564558595221085675.post-14735417043407766812010-07-04T14:03:12.225+01:002010-07-04T14:03:12.225+01:00I'm so pleased you have read The Dove Flyer, R...I'm so pleased you have read The Dove Flyer, Ros, we'll have to discuss it sometime.Miriam Halahmyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04935448538608020877noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6564558595221085675.post-89253308432599973122010-07-04T13:50:34.974+01:002010-07-04T13:50:34.974+01:00An excellent, thought-provoking blog.
